Dr. Dmitry V. Bulavin is the Director of the Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging (IRCAN) in Nice, France. His research focuses on the molecular biology of cancer and aging, particularly the role of DNA damage and stress response signaling. Notably, he has investigated the Wip1 phosphatase’s inhibition of tumorigenesis through the p38 MAP kinase pathway. Under his leadership, IRCAN aims to extend healthy human lifespan, with goals such as enabling individuals to live up to 120 years in good health. Dr. Bulavin’s work has significantly advanced understanding of cellular senescence and its implications for aging and cancer.

Professor Véronique Paquis-Flucklinger is a distinguished medical geneticist based in Nice, France, where she leads the Medical Genetics Department at Hôpital Archet 2 and coordinates a Reference Center for Mitochondrial Diseases. Her research at the Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging (IRCAN) has provided the first genetic evidence linking mitochondrial dysfunction to motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Her team has developed a mouse model replicating patient phenotypes, advancing the understanding of ALS pathogenesis and paving the way for novel therapeutic strategies. In 2022, her group identified toxic mitochondrial protein aggregates in ALS, highlighting potential targets for treatment.
